KATE CHOPIN

Kate Chopin experienced much lose in her life losing her sisters, brothers, and father while she was a child. Her parents had to have been distraught to out-live that many children. I can only imagine that they were hardened from such a distressing experience. While I have not personally lost many people in my life, I do love many people in my life and can be certain that the lose of so many people, especially during childhood, made a huge impact on her writing. She really had no choice but to be a strong, independent female considering the kind of life struggles she suffered. She was raised and mentored by strong, independent women whom encouraged her to be like them. This kind of encouragement from those women was certainly beneficial to her since she had to eventually run her late husband’s company by herself. Her writing encourages women to break the mold of what was expected of them during Chopin’s time and whom better to encourage them than a woman who was raised to be a leader.
